Wonderland Camp Full Time Staff

Cory Polk, Executive Director
Cory joined Wonderland Camp in December 2016. He graduated from Texas A&M with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Cory worked in the oil and gas industry. During his 15 years in the oil and gas industry, he learned numerous skills that help him in developing and managing a diverse team. At Wonderland Camp, Cory provides oversight for all fundraising, maintenance and camp activities. He will serve as the face of the camp and looks forward to getting into the community to meet all the people and business that help keep camp special to so many. Cory’s wife and sons will join him in Missouri in June 2017.

Dustin Baker, Interim Camp Director, Behavior Supports
Dustin brings the crazy and fun experience to Wonderland Camp. Dustin is studying Pyschology and is working toward his bachelor’s degree, where he wants to work with Behavior Interventions. Dustin is a Mandt (link to:  http://www.mandtsystem.com/solutions/leadership/why-mandt-2/culture-of-dignity-and-respect/) Instructor and is responsible for our staff training as well as our Program Staff including Arts and Crafts, Swimming, Boating, Nature, Music, and the great evening activities like Talent Show and Dance Party Thursdays.

Linda Fiers, Office Manager
Linda joined our team in April 2011. She brings many years of experience in property management and the printing industry. She lives in the country outside of Eldon, Missouri and spends her free time doting on her grandchildren. She's originally from Florissant, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. You can contact Linda with questions about coming to camp, our facility, working here as a counselor, making a donation, or just about anything else related to camp. Kevin Holliday, Maintenance Director
Kevin is no stranger to hard work and construction. Kevin joins the Wonderland Camp team after owning his own construction and excavating company in Jefferson City. Kevin began helping his dad build houses at 8 years old. Kevin was a member of the Jefferson City Jaycees and has been volunteering at Wonderland Camp for years. He was instrumental in the newer pool deck and the new bathroom at the Pool. Kevin is excited about getting to help make Wonderland Camp the best it can be. His goal is to maintain safe facilities so the staff can serve the campers better. Wonderland Camp is glad Kevin decided to join the team.

Richard Benad, Maintenance Specialist
Richard has been on hand at camp since March 2011. He gathered up lots of experience before joining us that really pays off around our facility and grounds. Richard's been a diesel mechanic, then a shop mechanic working on over-the-road coaches and buses; then he worked as a MIG welder, and finally went into lawn care and landscaping services. He lives in Rocky Mount.

CAMP DIRECTOR – MISSOURI

Since 1969 Wonderland Camp provides residential camp experiences during the summer and multiple spring and fall weekends for campers of all ability levels and for all ages beginning at 6 years old.  During the camper’s time at Wonderland, we create an individualized experience for each camper by providing exemplary personal camper care, a wide variety of accessible programming including ropes courses, a climbing wall, splash pad, swimming and other traditional camping programs including arts and crafts, fishing and boating on the Lake of the Ozarks, voted the best recreational lakes in the USA.

The Camp Director manages a variety of aspects of camp life.  The job of the Camp Director is to support the work of the Executive Director as well as the rest of the team to carry out the mission of the camp.  During the camping season, the Camp Director, will be responsible for camp operations including managing our 100+ seasonal staff (during the summer, less during the weekend sessions), assisting with clinic and kitchen needs and ensuring the Program Staff is equipped for success.  When camp is not in session, the Camp Director will focus upon recruiting staff, increasing camper interest in Wonderland Camp, developing the next years’ programs and increasing utilization of the camp facilities. 

Start date for this full-time position is negotiable, we would like for interested candidates to see the camp in operation this summer and are willing to wait until after the summer concludes for the right candidate.  The ideal candidate will need to:

  • excel at creating and communicating goals and objectives including the abilities to effectively provide feedback and resolve conflict.
  • manage multiple projects while streamlining systems and processes.
  • handle stressful situations and make rational and timely decisions without loss of poise, grace or humor.
  • work independently as well as be a strong team player.
  • understand ACA standards
  • have experience with people with disabilities.

A 3-bedroom house is provided for the Camp Director and family to reside.

The Assistant Camp Director manages a variety of aspects of camp life.  The job of the Assistant Camp Director is to support the work of the Camp Director as well as the summer leadership team to carry out the mission of the camp.  During the camping season, the Assistant Camp Director, will be responsible for assisting with camp operations including managing our 100+ seasonal staff (during the summer, less during the weekend sessions), being an additional set of hands to help with clinic and kitchen needs and ensuring the summer and weekend programming happen as planned.  When camp is not in session, the Assistant Camp Director will focus upon personal development, assisting with recruiting staff, increasing camper interest in Wonderland Camp and increasing utilization of the camp facilities. 

Start date for this full-time position is negotiable, we would like for interested candidates to see the camp in operation this summer and are willing to wait until after the summer concludes for the right candidate.  The ideal candidate will need to:
